Small Pacifist College Ends Playing National Anthem, Draws Ire From Nationalist Warmongers

Goshen College is a Mennonite college in Indiana that has created some unwarranted and unwanted controversy. Mennonites are pacifists you see and have chosen to suspend using the National Anthem at sporting events. This should really be a non event because the school has only been playing an instrumental version for the past year and is a small school with only a thousand students. The problem is this is America and America has a very large population of militaristic nationalist assholes in it.

The National Anthem is something straight out of Nazi Germany. Pledging undying loyalty to a flag (or country) no matter what that flag represents should be insulting to anyone who possesses the ability to think. And that is exactly what the school stated: “Art professor John Blosser tells The Goshen News that there is much national pride at the school, but that most people aren’t going to blindly accept what the country does” .What kind of people pledge allegiance to something that represents bombing and mass murdering people in far away lands that have no ability to protect themselves from faceless predator drones let alone the ability to mount some kind of attack on this country. The answer here can be found in a random sampling of Fox News viewers and anybody who listens to right wing radio or anyone who calls themselves a Democrat who believes we need to intervene everywhere to spread “democracy”.

Its become an epidemic in this country to have the National Anthem played with Air Force Fighters flying overhead at every sporting event that takes place. This is going hand in hand with the continued boot licking of every single person who wears a police or military uniform. Why should I be thanking every person in uniform for serving the public? Most cops in this country are steroid addled, power junkies who know less about the law then any given sea turtle and could give a shit about civil liberties. And as for the military, they don’t fight for us and our freedoms they fight simply for survival or because they are psychopaths and if they think they are doing something noble by “liberating” people well, they’re not. And this obsession with the National Anthem is akin to shouting “USA, USA” every chance we get. Its a sickening display of jingoistic bigotry and nationalist lunacy. Oh, and lets not forget most of these people self identify as Christian.

    I agree with 95% of your post. As a retired military officer, I would like to point out that most military people see the service as a job where hay have to do as they are told. About 90% percent of these jobs are support jobs that don’t involve actual combat. Like most of my peers, I do not regard myself as a hero by any measure, I just found a job that I really enjoyed and stayed with it. I guess the “psychopath” comments are what I object to as I would say the percentage of those in the military is not much more than that of the general population. I would submit that the actual psychopaths are the politicians who are directing the military to do the things we all object to. My peer group feels that “support the troops” means bring them home and don’t put them in harm’s way unless there are no other options.

      The psychopath comment was directed at the types stationed in Washington that decided they wanted to kill civilians in Afghanistan. I also regard politicians to be psychopaths because they clearly lack any moral compass with their wanton disregard for human life. And your peer group is correct. I support the troops and I want them to come home.
